Wymondley Wood Scout and Guide Activity Centre
The Wymondley Wood Scout and Guide Centre is a residential centre for organised youth groups. It was opened by George Purdy (Chief Scout) and Jenny Leach (Chief Guide) in May 2003. The centre is located between Willian and Great Wymondley.
The building can sleep forty two and is situated within four acres of camp site with access to an adjacent 20-acre conservation area with mature woods, stream, pond and grassland.
The property is jointly leased from the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation by Letchworth and Baldock District Scout Council and Letchworth Garden City Guides.
The building's facilities include
- A fully equipped kitchen
- Five dormitories sleeping 6-8 and furnished with bunk beds with storage facilities beneath
- Two en-suit leaders' dormitories each sleeping four
- Separate male and female ablutions
- Dining room and Activity room which can be combined to create a room 13 metres long.
- Leaders' room
- Warden's office
- Tuck shop
- Access and facilities for the disabled.
The four-acre camp site has been planted with many young trees and attractively landscaped. There is mature woodland to the north and mature hedges east and south. There is a camp fire site, arena space for games, camping for two company/troop size camps, a patrol camp. The site also has a wet weather shelter, male and female ablution block and an outside washing up facility with hot and cold water.
On site activities include, pioneering, archery, trampoline, bouncy castle, 5-a-side football, It's-a -knockout, volleyball, play parachute, earthball and small group games.
Please note some of the activities are at extra cost
We are adjacent to the 18.5 km Greenway around the Garden City which is suitable for walking and cycling and there are many pleasant short walks in the locality.
