Letchworth & Baldock District

Our District covers Letchworth, Baldock and the surrounding villages of Ashwell and Weston. We have nine Scout Groups, a District Explorer Unit and a Scout Network Unit. It is usual for each Scout Group to have a Beaver, Cub and Scout Section so that members entering at the age of six may progress through the Sections until they complete their Queen's Scout Award at the age of twenty five.

There is a progressive training programme which starts with fun packed activities in Beavers and gradually introduces Scouts to more adventurous outdoor activities and the leadership and team skills necessary to complete them successfully. The majority of activities are undertaken at the weekly Scout meetings, but there are also District and County events to extend the range of activities available.

In order to ensure the quality of these activities and gain the confidence of parents all Leaders are required to undertake training sponsored by the Scout Movement.

Each Scout Group comprises the Uniformed Leaders backed up by an Executive Committee of parents. They are supported by Assistant District Commissioners (ADC) for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and a District Explorer Scout Commissioner. There is a District Executive Committee responsible for the general conduct and quality of Scouting within the District.

The District runs the Wymondley Wood Activity Centre with the Guides. This is a purpose built centre on the outskirts of the town which provides indoor accommodation for 36 Scouts plus leaders. The surrounding grounds are used for camping and other events such as sports, wide games and orienteering. The centre is frequently used by Scouts, Guides, Youth Organisation and Schools from other parts of the County and beyond.

The District has a Scout and Guide Shop where uniforms and other Scouting books and equipment can be purchased. This is open every Tuesday and Thursday evening during term time. Further details can be found in the Scout and Guide Shop area of this website.
